Kosher and Dietary Guidelines

General Guidelines for Agudath Dietary Laws

Please send a DAIRY lunch with your child if he or she participates in a lunch program. The synagogue and school observe kashrut (Jewish dietary laws). Any packaged food brought for lunch should be marked with the appropriate symbol signifying that the food is Kosher. Similarly, all snacks for Shabbat and birthday parties must be KOSHER. Baked goods may be brought in from bakeries on the synagogue’s list of approved bakeries, which is below. Please contact the office with any questions on this subject. Thank you.

Following is a list of approved bakeries to buy challah and baked goods:

Kosher Korner – West Caldwell
Howard’s Bakery – Lake Hiawatha
Shop Rite – West Caldwell and Parsippany
Parsippany Shop Rite has a Kosher Bakery
Pechter’s challah can be purchased at any supermarket
Allwood Bakery – Clifton
West Orange Bakery – West Orange
*Friendly’s and Carvel are both Kosher for snacks
*Entenmann’s and Freihofers are also Kosher

Additional Dietary Information

Because of the abundance of serious peanut allergies amongst our children, Agudath Israel Nursery school is striving to be a peanut/nut free school. This means we try our best not to serve any snacks that contain nuts or are made on machinery that processes nuts.
