Special Events & Opportunities
Shabbat is celebrated every Friday. Your family will enjoy "hosting" a fun-filled Shabbat for your child’s class several times during the year. Our school is very proud of its outreach mitzvah opportunities for both children and entire families.
Our Nutrition Committee has developed a program to encourage children to try healthy foods. Each class has a schedule to assign a family to bring in a fruit or vegetable snack each week. Our goal is to provide an environment where children expand their food choices and cheer on their friends to share in the experience.
In addition, we plan many highly anticipated annual events, including a festive Chanukah party and Purim celebration, both featuring live entertainment, and an exciting end-of-year party. You’ll see your child perform in our dazzling holiday programs, such as the Thanksgiving Feast and Chanukah show. Family-friendly Friday night services are also frequently scheduled, including Shabbat in Pajamas evenings.
Throughout the year, your child’s teacher will be available to discuss any concerns or questions you may have. In addition, twice a year you will have one-on-one conferences with your child’s teacher. You will also have a chance to grow and learn with our well-attended Parenting Workshops. In the past, some of our programming has included a Sibling Rivalry program (lead by a licensed social worker), and Talking to Children About G-d, an inspiring and important subject covered by our own Rabbi Silverstein. CPR for parents has also been offered. You won’t want to miss Educational Director Susan Werk’s enlightening Book Reviews and Holiday Workshops geared toward parents of small children. We pride ourselves in our educational Nutrition Program, which includes lectures and healthy snacks for the children every day.
Other special events offered during our school year include Grandparents or Special Friends Day for our 3’s, Mother’s Day Luncheon, an evening with Dad, Exodus Program and an Israel Adventure Day for our 4’s. Holiday cooking classes and Family Shabbat dinners are also offered. Also, during the year, we enrich our children with a variety of exciting field trips. Our 3’s begin to branch out with a walk to the library, a visit to the dentist, a local farm and a special end of the year celebration. Our 4’s, who are getting ready to leave our nest, also visit the library as well as museums, St. Barnabas Hospital, a local farm and a local planetarium.
