SUSAN WERK
Educational Director

Susan Werk has been the Educational Director of Congregation Agudath Israel in Caldwell since 1990. Susan received her Masters in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary. She was the chairperson of the Jewish Education Association (JEA). Principal's Forum (1997-1999) and is a board member of both the JEA and the Conservative Movement Jewish Educational Assembly. Susan is currently the Vice-President of Program for CAJE and was the Program Chair of the 21st annual CAJE (Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education) conference in Israel and is a member of the CAJE Editorial Board. She has won The JEA Hoffman Award for her creative God curriculum and the Leo Brody Jewish Communal Service Award for professional excellence given by the New Jersey Association of Jewish Communal Service.

In 1996, Congregation Agudath Israel honored her with a testimonial dinner and in 2002 a weekend honoring her thirteen year as Educational Director. In 1998, for her contribution to Camp Ramah, Susan won the Camp Ramah in the Berkshires "Ramah Award". Susan also teaches for the Melton Adult Mini School and has been the Scholar in residence for MetroWest Federation's Women's Department. Women’s department presented her a gift of appreciation in 2003. Currently, she is a mentor to the Leadership Institute for synagogue principals through Hebrew Union College and Jewish Theological Seminary and a mentor for the Davidson School of Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary.

To Susan's credit, she has also co-authored "Figuring It Out Together: A Program of Family Study and Experiences" published by "The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism Commission on Jewish Education", and an article entitled "Hands on: Enriching the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Experience" published in "Women's Leisure".
