In 1893, Theodore Mommsen, German classicist and jurist, concluded that all appeals to reason and tolerance are impotent in holding back the mass appeal of anti-Semitic incitement. Today, little more than a century later, after the Shoah and the establishment of the State of Israel, a growing global hatred for Israel and Jews confronts us with new dangers and challenges. This series will explore the history of those dangers and challenges and what methods we may have to confront the assault on our identity as Jews.
