Jewish tradition mandates that Pikuah Nefesh Docheh et Hakol--safeguarding our health takes priority above all else --including communal Shabbat observance, weekday and Shabbat community prayer.

With the civic health directives urging maximum efforts at social distancing in order to stem the spread -

For the first time in the history of our shul, as of Friday, March 13, CAI will be suspending weekday and Shabbat services in our building.

BUT -- we can still be together.

By praying together with others, we also give structure to our lives, we build friendships, we come to care even more intensively for our colleagues in prayer, we can study Torah thoughts, we can hear updates about the well-being of vulnerable community members and so much more.

Prayer with Cantor Caplan and Torah Thought with Rabbi Silverstein

"Is this a minyan?"  No, not a halachic minyan.  Rabbi Silverstein has ruled that we may say Mourner's Kaddish during this most unusual time, but we won't be saying Bar'chu, or repeating the Amida, or saying other forms of Kaddish.  Each of us will be davening l'vad -- that is, each of us davening by ourselves.

You'll hear almost all the regular passages that you would hear the Shaliach Tsibur (Service Leader) sing normally.  And there's time to shmooze with others, both before and after davening (just as we'd do in shul!).

Use your own Siddur, or contact Cantor Caplan for a PDF or travel-size copy of Siddur Sim Shalom.
