Derek Fields will focus on "Duties of the Heart," a 1,000-year-old book by Bachya Ibn Pakuda, the first systematic investigation into Jewish ethics. From moral philosophy to personal practices, the work combines traditional Jewish sources with the Arabic philosophy prevalent at that time. Students will discuss how Pakuda's insights remain relevant today.
